FTD Sunflower Arrangement
August 29, 2008

Here is the arrangement as it appeared on the FTD website
Here we have another arrangement recieved through FTD. At our online store (www.fernsandflowers.com) customers can order pre-designed arrangements and we replicate and improve upon them. Of course, sometimes these orders can be tough (Its impossible to have every single flower than can appear in the FTD networks arrangements on hand all the time), but we never cease to try to please.

Our version

We also added Kankgaroos Paw

Don't worry, by the end of the day all of that green will have revealed tiny yellow flowers
Sunflowers and Hydrangeas
August 29, 2008
Back with the crowd favourite, Hydrangeas! this time paired with sunflowers, iris, stock, and a berry garland.

The arrangement stands about 3ft tall

The hydrangeas were picked directly from our gardens

Yellow and Purple are an incredible color choice, especially when you include Iris
Time for Tea?
August 23, 2008

Here at Ferns and Flowers we are always looking for new and interesting products and ideas. Today my father came to me with a rather large selection of free-trade, loose leaf teas that he thinks would a great addition to our product list. Now the attached tea house has a vast selection of bagged and loose leaf teas, however their emphasis is on serving it more than selling it.
My reason for posting is to gauge customer interest in adding loose leaf tea and tea paraphernalia to our inventory. Our plan would be to start small, with approximately two dozen different teas and then work up from there.
So if anyone is interested, we would definitely like to hear your support!
Thanks,
Trevor Gerard

Tropical Wedding Shower
August 23, 2008

Tropical Centerpiece
For this series of arrangements, a particularly artistic client wanted colourful and summery (but not too crazy) table arrangements. We opted to go with oranges and purples to give the shower a tropical and exotic feeling. There were going to be eight tables at the shower and we needed to keep the arrangements short enough so that guests could see each other over them. We used roses, tritoma, pin cushion, protea, birds of paradise, orchids, assorted eucalyptus, and other tropical plants such that each arrangement looked different. For the pictures below I picked out two of my favorite arrangements out of the eight.

As you can see, we used a 5x5x5" clear glass cube vase

The birds of paradise incorporate all the colours we used throughout the arrangement

The oranges and purples compliment each other immensely

Vibrant Funeral
August 23, 2008
Just a few days ago we had a client who wanted flowers for a funeral. They wanted the arrangements to be very vibrant and colourful, using oranges and reds. (We really do appreciate it when clients come in with an idea of what they want… you have no idea how hard it is to make an arrangement when a client says “oh, I don’t know what I want, whatever you decide”)

Coffin blanket
We used lilies, roses, tritoma, cherry brandy roses, red sunflowers, and leather leaf to create these arrangements. (I appologise for the poor picture quality, the camera has been on the fritz)
Ornaments… already??
August 18, 2008
Just the other day we got some new Baldwin ornaments in that are definatley unique. They are made by a Rhode Island company called ChemArt, who engraves plates brass ornaments with precious metals.

We also have a Baldwin exclusive. Every year they do a special ornament for the White House christmas tree, but this is the first year that they’re releasing it to the public. It comes in an ornate box with a certificate of authenticity.

Wildflower Sympathy
August 16, 2008
Here we have two different sympathy/funeral arrangements that were made using wildflowers and garden flowers. They were both made to reflect ones love of the garden, and both were arranged randomly so as to reflect most of our gardens. The first one we made, specific flowers were requested. Flowers such as sunflowers, lillies, daisies, and snap dragons.

A garden based arrangement
The second arrangement was made using flowers I remember seeing around backyards when I was a kid, like the Lillie’s in Aunt Sues yard during the 4th of July.

Haphazardly arranged

Hydrangeas and Roses and Weddings oh My!
August 9, 2008
Hydrangeas and roses are the fasion for this summers wedding scene, and we are only too happy to oblige.
Way back in July we did a fairytale wedding at Astors in Newport. We made about fifteen of these table centerpieces and “altar” pieces using roses, hydrangeas, lillies, orchids, stock, pink larkspur, and various greens.

Happy Birthday!
August 9, 2008
What do you get for a little girls birthday?
princess flowers!

For the princess of the house (even though she thinks she's the queen)
As you can see, this arrangement has Roses, Daisies, Snapdragons, Babies Breath, Alstro, and Pink Tissue Status, a stuffed animal, and a pink feather boa. A great way to make your little girl really believe that she’s the boss.

Summer Sunsets
August 9, 2008

Summer sunset
This arrangement is being given to one of our clients patients as a recovery gift. We used orchids, pin-cusion protea, cherry brandy roses, kangaroo paw, and various grasses. A butterfly was thrown in for good measure. The oranges, yellows and browns really remind viewers of a late summer sunset at the beach… its a good thing.

A unique combination of flowers

The cherry brandy roses were particularly good today

No butterflies were harmed in the arranging of this... arrangement
